Williams Fire & Hazard Control Horizontal Bladder tanks provide dependable and cost effective foam fire protection for a wide variety of flammable/combustible liquid hazards. Used in conjunction with one, or multiple ratio flow controllers (installed adjacent to the tank), the all-hydraulic balanced pressure proportioning system stores, delivers and proportions foam without dependence on external foam concentrate pumping. Only water under pressure is required for system operation.
The Horizontal Bladder Tank is a cylindrical carbon steel ASME pressure vessel containing a flexible polymeric elastomer inner bladder which encapsulates the foam concentrate. This bladder physically separates stored foam concentrate from the water supply. When the system is activated, water is directed into the tank shell, which then pressurizes the space between the flexible bladder and the interior tank wall. This water pressure causes the bladder to collapse, which then dispenses foam concentrate out through distribution piping and (ultimately) into the ratio controller(s). The ratio controller’s modified venturi creates a “metering pressure drop” in the fire water line, allowing foam concentrate to pass through a fixed orifice plate and enter the fire water piping at the designated proportioning rate. In installations where the bladder normally is under pressure (wet pipe, reaction, or when the deluge valve is downstream from the ratio controller), a normally-closed actuated concentrate valve (electric or hydraulic) isolates the foam concentrate until energized. The Williams Fire & Hazard Control Horizontal Bladder Tank is one component in a balanced pressure foam proportioning system. It requires no external power, other than the water pressure to ensure correct operation. The horizontal bladder tanks are designed and constructed in accordance with the latest revisions to ASME code, Section VIII for unfired pressure vessels with a working pressure of 175 psi and tested to 1.3 times this pressure.

The tank shell is constructed of SA 516 Grade 70 steel, complying with ASME specifications, possessing a tensile strength of not less than 70,000 psi. The circumferential, as well as the longitudinal body seam, are machine welded. The tank interior welds and edges are ground smooth.
The tank shell water inlet and tank shell water drain is screened to prevent bladder blow out or the entrapment of debris between the tank shell and the bladder.
The horizontal tank assembly is supported on two saddles welded to the tank and fitted with anchoring holes allowing easy access to the bladder drain/fill valve and the tank shell drain/fill valve.
