Welder / Fabricator – Port Arthur, TX

The Welder/Fabricator is responsible for fitting, fabricating, and welding components used in Williams Fire & Hazard Control equipment and product builds. This position works from production drawings, blueprints, specifications, and work instructions to complete assigned fabrication safely, accurately, and in accordance with Williams Fire & Hazard Control quality standards, policies, and procedures.

Please note: This position is open to candidates already living in Southeast Texas. Relocation assistance is not available.

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret blueprints, production drawings, welding specifications, and work orders.

  • Fit and weld aluminum and steel components according to required specifications.

  • Perform GMAW/MIG and TIG welding.

  • Operate Miller Aluma Pro MIG welding equipment.

  • Operate manual and semi-automatic welding equipment.

  • Operate plasma cutting and oxy-acetylene cutting equipment.

  • Operate hand tools, power tools, and other metalworking equipment required for fabrication.

  • Inspect completed work to verify workmanship, dimensions, and conformance with drawings and specifications.

  • Review drawings and specifications to identify potential fabrication or fit-up issues.

  • Perform technical and quality inspections as required.

  • Maintain detailed and accurate production and inspection documentation.

  • Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), established welding parameters, and production requirements.

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.

  • Follow all Williams Fire & Hazard Control safety policies and procedures.

  • Work with supervisors and lead personnel to support production schedules, quality requirements, and continuous improvement.

  • Maintain working knowledge of applicable equipment, fabrication techniques, and repair processes.

  • Complete assigned tasks and projects accurately and within established timelines.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 
Qualifications

  • Experience welding aluminum and steel.

  • Working knowledge of GMAW/MIG and TIG welding processes.

  • Ability to read and understand blueprints, production drawings, specifications, and written work instructions.

  • Knowledge and safe operation of welding, cutting, fabrication, hand, and power tools.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.

  • Ability to troubleshoot fabrication and fit-up issues.

  • Good time management and organizational skills.

  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.

  • Dependable and accountable for assigned work.

  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

  • Good verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to follow established safety procedures and work practices.

    • Preferred:​

      • Three (3) or more years of welding/fabrication experience.

      • GMAW/MIG welding experience.

      • TIG welding experience.

      • Aluminum and steel fabrication experience.

      • Plasma cutting experience.

      • Oxy-acetylene cutting experience.

      • Experience using common hand and power tools.

      • Experience in a manufacturing or fabrication environment.

      • Experience performing routine equipment maintenance.

      • Welding or related technical certifications.

Work Conditions

  • This position works primarily in a manufacturing and fabrication environment. The employee will regularly work around welding equipment, cutting equipment, hand and power tools, machinery, noise, heat, sparks, fumes, and other conditions normally associated with metal fabrication.

  • Extended hours and/or overtime may be required based on production workload. Off-shift hours or weekends may occasionally be required based on production needs.

Physical Demands

  • This position requires the physical ability to perform welding and fabrication work for extended periods. Duties may include standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, grasping, and working in various fabrication positions. The employee must have sufficient manual and mechanical dexterity to safely operate welding equipment, cutting equipment, hand tools, and power tools.
